In the process of learning how to knit a scarf, you should consider some materials and measurements to knit a scarf; materials like, needles and yarns that you are going to be used. These two materials depend on each other. This article includes two tables to be considered in knitting a scarf. Below is a brief explanation of each one of these two materials. Then you will understand why they are so important in the process of knitting a scarf.

knitting NeedlesNeedles: There are a variety of needles; usually to knit a scarf you will use two identical needles. The material of these needles can be, plastic, wood, or metal. Each pair of needles has a different length, such as short, long, double-ended, or pointed and a head. The importance in the needle is their thickness. This size is based on numbers. These numbers start from zero, this number corresponds to the thinnest needle, and then the number will increase when the thickness of the needle increases, most of the times the measured number is printed on the needle head. These needles are also in different colors, but choosing colors is not important, so this will be the preference of the person who will be using the needles.

knitting YarnYarns: There are a variety of yarns, see the table below for the type of material and its origin.

Acrylic No durable, easy to wash it, and cheaper Synthetic fibers
Alpaca Very warm and elastic Alcapa (this is an animal similar to a small llama)
Angora Fluffy, hairy, fuzzy, it does not have that much elasticity Angora Rabbits
Cashmere Soft, warm, expensive Goat
Cotton Absorbent and durable Cotton plant
Mohair Very soft, but itchy, water resistant Goat
Wool Resistant and durable Sheep

You can use a small or large percentage of these materials to compose one. Knowing the amount of the percentage of each is very important for the care of the scarf. It is recommended to print a label if you are knitting scarves to sell them; indicating the kind of material of the scarf and instructions for washing it. The label of the yarn is very important because this contain very good information, such as the yarn thickness. Also, include the number of the color if you need to buy more, the number of recommended needles, and other instructions that could be used to create the label of the scarf. Below there some measurements for the use of the correct needle size depending on the yarn size.
