Learn How To Knit Stitch

Once you Cast-On some stitches, the next process will be to continue with your second row, in this article you will learn how to knit stitch. I will start with knit process; because my main focus is to start with the basics. Bellow there are two ways to knit.

English Knitting

The knit stitch in English knitting, also knowing as American knitting or Knit the standard way this is very simple. Once you learn it, you can knit your first scarf. Follow the next steps.

  • Step 2         Hold the needle with the stitches on it in your left hand; the working yarn always should be at the back of the project. Slip the tip of the right needle into the first loop (inside of the stitch) from front to back forming a cross.

  • Step 3         Wrap the yarn around your right needle counter-clockwise. (See first picture) or if you are using your index finger to hold the working yarn go over the working yarn with the right needle to wrap the working yarn. (see second picture)

  • Step 4         Pull the new knit stitch through the old stitch.

  • Step 5         At the same time dropping the old stitch off of your left needle.

  • Step 6         Now you have your first knit stitch done. Repeat step 2 through step 5 until you done with you row

  • Step 7         To continue with your next row turn the work by changing the needles the one with the work to your left hand and the empty one to your right hand.

 

Knit Through Back Loop 

  • Step 1         Cast-on some stitches at least ten to practice, this will be your foundation (Follow “How to Cast-On a Stitch” instructions). It will be better if you practice with big size and large needles. Hold the needle with the stitches on it in your left hand; the working yarn always should be at the back of the project, if you can hold it with your index finger will be easier (for the wrapping process step 3).

  • Step 2         Slip the tip of the right needle to the back into the first loop (inside of the stitch).

  • Step 3         Wrap the yarn around your right needle counter-clockwise (See first picture) or if you are using your index finger to hold the working yarn go over the working yarn with the right needle to wrap the working yarn. (see second picture)

  • Step 4         Pull the new knit stitch through the old stitch.
